Story of World House Hostel

The building that was to become World House Hostel was constructed in the year 1860: a quiet Genoese-style stone house in the neighbourhood called Galata. It was an unassuming structure then, that blended into this Italian-flavoured neighbourhood like a tree in a forest. Yet it was only steps away was the iconic Galata Tower…

what do they say about us on hostelworld.com

The World House Istanbul is a great place. We stayed there for 6 nights as a group of 4 people. We recommend the 6 bed room in the forth floor with his own balcony. Even the bathroom is a funny experience ;-). Everything was clean. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired. One single deficiency: There is no bar in the hostel because of the mosque next to the building. But the stuff is very sympathetic and helpfull. They even dealed really discreet and professional after one of us was “lost”!The World House Istanbul is a great place. We stayed there for 6 nights as a group of 4 people. This hostel had the best facilities I’ve encountered so far. Staff was very kind and helpful. I have only one advice to give- bring your own laptop!! The hostel has one on the first floor but the internet connection is poor and a place for the USB stick is broken. Hostel is also very big so if you’re very shy, don’t expect to mingle that easily. Rather than that- a perfect location and a very pleasant stay! I would come back!!This hostel had the best facilities I’ve encountered so far. Staff was very kind and helpful. The breakfast was banging, the location was great, and the staff was unbelievably wonderful. Mustafa is the coolest dude and he sat with us for a solid amount of time telling us what to do/see and how. Deniz was also a cool dude and helped me decide what to do with my last morning. The bar crawl was certainly and interesting experience- definitely try it. Met some really cool people there, the atmosphere was great, but again- the breakfast was awesome. History of Galata

The history of the neighbourhood Galata – sometimes known as Pera colloquially, or as Karaköy in modern Turkish – is in many ways distinct from the history of the rest of Istanbul. As you behold the networks of craft shops, chirping cafés and swirling streets, or as you sit and watch the parades of travellers, musicians, and gregarious business keepers, or as you observe the distinctive character of the buildings, and the multitude of international impressions on art, religion, and language, it is easy to see that this place has lived an interesting life of its own.It is only very recently that Galata has gained a reputation as the glowing and multi-coloured jewel in the chest of the city, but the story of Galata is still, overall, a story of diversity, change, and the confluence of countless cultures and ideas over time. This story has culminated in the rich mosaic ambiance you see today. Hopefully this page can complement your stay at world house hostel…
